MARY RAO (RAO) MARTIN

Mary P. Martin (Rao) a beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 11, 2023 in Oklahoma City, OK  at the age of 91. She was born in the West End of Boston, MA, on February 13, 1932, to Italian immigrants, the late Vincenzo and Carmela Rao.

Mary, known for her warm heart and unwavering love, was the only sister among her eight brothers, all of whom predeceased her: Patsy, Gigi, Sonny, Angelo, JoeJoe, Mikey, Tillio, and Frankie Rao. In her younger years, Mary's passion for music led her to become an avid singer, and her love for music endured throughout her entire life.

Devoted to helping and connecting with people, Mary found great joy in her role as an apartment manager. She cherished the daily interactions and the opportunity to lend a helping hand to those around her.

Mary shared a beautiful life journey with her late husband, Edward R. Martin, who passed away in 2006. Together, they raised five children and were blessed with a loving family that extended to 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 31 nieces and nephews.  all of whom held a special place in her heart.

A devout Catholic, Mary's faith was an integral part of her life. She never missed attending Mass, and even when circumstances prevented her from attending in person, she faithfully tuned in to televised Mass twice every Sunday.

Mary is survived by her cherished children, Camille Sutherland (Jake) of Florida, Ed Martin (Beth), Rick Martin (Becky), Michelle Ross (Jerry), all of Oklahoma, and Lisa Coates (Mark) of Texas. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Edward R. Martin, in Florida.

Mary's legacy of love, faith, and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her warm smile, kind words, and boundless love touched the lives of many, leaving behind a lasting legacy of love and compassion. Mary will be dearly missed, but her memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
