On May 30th, 2023, Katie Dell Shores, loving mother of two daughters, passed away at the age of 80.
Katie was born on February 7, 1943, in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Clifford and Annie Shores. She attended and graduated from Butner Schools, where she excelled at playing basketball. On September 1, 1961, she married Tom Hays of Wewoka. They had two daughters, Lora, and Sheila. In her adulthood she was an assembly line worker, a bookkeeper, an executive assistant, a realtor, and a business owner.
Katie was passionate, generous, loving, and multi-faceted. She was proud, yet humble. Quiet, yet outspoken. Simple, yet grandiose. She worked hard, played hard, and loved fiercely. She loved her family and friends. She helped many of her neighbors, they too became her friends. She had a tender heart and a soft touch, right alongside a quick wit, and wicked sense of humor. She was intelligent, direct, honest, and very adept at making her point.
Katie was an excellent cook and baker, everything she made was delicious! She brought joy to many by sharing her gift. She brought beauty to our world with magnificent flower beds, flowering shrubs, trees, and vegetable gardens. She had the ability to make anything flourish. She loved nature and wildlife. She was an avid bird watcher and fed them a fine diet. She was a voracious reader. She loved children, believed in second chances, and human rights.
Katie was a beautiful woman; her physical beauty was rivaled only by her beautiful soul. Her spirit will live on in all the better parts of those she left behind. We must carry on, to honor the goodness in what we have lost.
Katie was preceded in death by her father Clifford Sr., mother Annie, brothers Clifford Jr. (Son), Franklin (Frankie), and sisters, Daisy Marie (Rhea), Leta, Patricia (Trishie), Betty, and Mary Elizabeth (Putch).
She is survived by her two daughters, Lora, Sheila, and spouse Tammy, her grandchildren Michael and spouse Josyln, Samuel and spouse, Brianna, her brother Gerald (Jerry) and spouse Liz, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A casual celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, along the shoreline of Lake Eufaula at the residence of family friends Tim and Patricia, 116928 S 4257th Road, Eufaula, OK 74432.
